sporty my box from japan

To my utter delight when My Box from Japan arrived yesterday (29 Oct) just 4 days after getting the email about it being dispatched.

So, I’ve mentioned in a previous post that I really like sporty animes lately, and that I’ve given up on Betoyo Bento and trying out My Box from Japan.

I also tweeted:

So, imagine my surprise and delight when opening the box I saw some very very familiar colours peeking out.

Obviously, the first thing I could see was the orange and black from Karasuno High School. Followed very quickly by a little orang/red keychain that made me grin (more below).

Ta da!

So as you can see, there’s the Attack on Titan towel (yay. I was going to buy a towel anyway so this was good), a Detective Conan notebook,

2 little snack packs, 2 gachapons (From One Piece and Robotic Notes, both I’ve not read/watched/played. Yes.. shocking. I’ve never seen One Piece..) The quality of the One Piece gacha wasn’t great, so I am likely not going to be keeping that around. The other one is very cute and seems much nicer.

Kagami keychain! (Squeeee) and Miyuki (from Daiya no A) lanyard.

The biggest item is this fantasticly sculpted Hinata figure. It is very well done.

The only way I could be happier is if I have gotten Sugawara Kōshi (or Sawamura or Azumane) instead. Might even have to go hunt for those when they’re out in December. (or buy them in Japan next year.. fufufufu… more info to come)

9 items in total. and 3 of them mentioned in my aforementioned post! Haikyuu, Kuroko no Basu and Daiya no A. Only Free! missing. Still… 3 out of 4 in one box is pretty incredible. I was pathetically happy unboxing this. This is probably hands-down my favourite box yet from all the boxes I’ve gotten before.

a tad out of hand…

So, I am quite nuts about subscription boxes. Since November last year I have been trying out all sorts of boxes (see previous posts filed under Geeky if you are interested) starting with Loot crate, and gradually swapping and changing boxes including nerd block, infinity crate, my geek box, betoyo bento and oyatsu box).

As a result, my tshirt drawer is now full to bursting, and my shelf is peppered with vinyl figurines (even if I don’t include the ones I actually specifically bought).

A few month’s not having time to properly sort things out ended up with my floor space slowly being taken over by boxes. I’ve already given so much stuff away I can’t believe it’s still nearly spilling out of my room!

I have now canceled all but the very newest subscriptions I’ve made a week or so ago (my box from japan and gacha crate). So I will not be getting anything from Oyatsu cafe (story to be told elsewhere), betoyo bento, nor nerd block (apart from Nov and the welcome block. Again, long story, and will be featured in the post when that comes) anymore.

After a year’s worth of subscription, what can I say about these  boxes…

  1. They are good fun
  2. They are pretty pointless
  3. They clutter up space
  4. You get a thrill when they arrive
  5. Why the hell not.
  6. You find yourself scratching your head wondering who comes up with these things
  7. You start to question your sanity

Anyone who’s even had a brief glance at my recent posts knows that:

  1. I am addicted to figurines
  2. I love blind boxes
  3. kuroko no basu is fab

So when I saw that crunchy roll has the entire set of Ochatomo (plus a special edition) for the latest Kuroko figurines I caved.

FYI, ochatomo means tea friends (ocha and tomodachi), designed to hang off tea cups/mugs.

The first one that came more than a month ago was the Kise Kuroko limited edition away team uniform figurines while the main box was still at preorder stage.

And then came the motherload…

The box itself is so nicely printed.

Inside, each box is printed with the featured character on the top, so it’s not really a blind box per se. Still, cute as heck and fantastic quality.

Oddly, I spotted a rouge box. See if you can spot the difference. Wonder how that happened?

So here are the figurines. They are cute as hell. Unfortunately I was using a dartington wine class, so was probably a little too thin and curved for some of them to sit well. Kagami in particular took a few nose dives into my wine. *sigh*

Surprisingly, they all came with a coaster with a signature item, colour and number.

Kise yellow no.7 = love letters
Akashi red no. 4 = shogi emperor piece
Murasakibara purple no. 9 = snacks
Aomine navy blue no. 5 = basketball
Kuroko light blue no.11 = maji vanilla shake
Takao orange no. 10 = wooden transport cart
Kagami red no. 10 = maji burgers
Midorimo green no.6 = penguin (??!) lucky item. I thought it should have been kerosuke though.

All in love, I love the set.

I must admit, buying the entire set is very satisfying but it eliminated the “doki doki” sensation while breaking into a box/gachapon not knowing what you’d get, or if it’ll be a duplicate or something new and rare.

But with my gacha luck, maybe it’s just wiser sticking to this.
