Tamago kake gohan, which is just raw egg on hot rice with soy sauce. Growing up, this was one of my favourite meals.
Just scoop a bowl full of piping hot rice, make a little well in the middle and break an egg into it. Mix it well and add soy sauce to taste.
It is amazing.
The raw egg gets semi cooked but still creamy in the rice, and the soy sauce give it a good little savoury hit. You can also add other stuff like a little bit of butter, or seaweed, or bonito flakes…. anything you like, really.
Simple, filling and oh so satisfying.
